Anthony (A.J.) Dewayne Collins Jr., 13, was struck by a car while riding a bicycle at the intersection of West Ward and Mercer streets in Hightstown around 9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9, DailyVoice.com reported.
He slipped into cardiac arrest while waiting for EMS crews to arrived and was pronounced dead at the hospital around 10:20 p.m.
Known for his bright smile and endless positivity, the Melvin H. Kreps Middle Schooler was born in New Brunswick and had recently moved to Highstown, a GoFundMe launched for his final expenses says.
He loved reading, LEGOS, and fully embraced his role as an uncle and big brother.
More than $37,800 had been raised by 620 donors as of Wednesday, Sept. 14, putting the family more than halfway toward the campaign’s $75,000 goal in just two days.
AJ leaves behind his loving parents, Elba Quiñones and Anthony Collins; his brothers, Zahmier, Christofer, Darius and Isaiah; his little sister, Analisse; his grandparents, aunts, uncles, and nieces; as well as his extended family members and the many school peers who will never forget his memory.
“A.J. brought joy wherever he went,” reads the fundraiser. “Please consider donating to help the family with the funeral and related costs they will incur.”
